Punch Clock Time Sentry

Tutorial - Utilities - Time Sentry Mark II

1) Download Time Sentry Mark II from our website, and install it on a computer that you have determined to be your "trusted" Punch Clock time server.  It is best that this machine is not readily available to your employees, or that they not know that Time Sentry is running on this machine.  This machine can be a standalone work-station or a network server, it does not matter.

2) Start Time Sentry Mark II for the first time.  Here is the screen you will see:

Time Sentry Screen

This is what Time Sentry looks like when it is running.  It keeps an on-screen history of all incoming connections and which IP Address they connected from.  This is useful when trying to determine connectivity issues.

Notice that under the title, the IP Address of the Time Sentry machine is displayed in bold red characters.  This is so non-admin users can easily find the IP Address of the Time Sentry machine, as it is required in order to configure Punch Clock to use this Time Sentry server.

3) Write down the IP Address.  You will need it in the next step.  Leave Time Sentry running on this machine.

4) Go to a machine that has Punch Clock installed on it.  Start Punch Clock and enter the Admin Console.  Go to Maintenance, Time Sentry, Time Sentry Mark II.

Time Sentry Config 1

Once you choose the Time Sentry Mark II option, you will see the following screen:

Time Sentry Entry

5) In the blank, type in the IP Address from the Time Sentry program.  These were the red numbers at the top of the Time Sentry program.  Once these are entered, click the Save/Activate button.

Time Sentry Config

If you have configured everything correctly, and your local PC can see the Time Sentry server, you will get the above message showing the current date and time returned from the Time Sentry server.  From now on all Punch In/Out transactions will get the current date and time from the Time Sentry server you have specified.  If you receive an error message telling you to start your Time Sentry server, please re-check the configuration.  You may need to consult your network admin for assistance in this configuration.

Final notes:

- Time Sentry Mark II is currently written as a Windows Application.  As such, the machine with Time Sentry installed MUST remain online and logged in during the time when employees are using Punch Clock.  If the Time Sentry server is not found when a user tries to Punch in/out, after a brief timeout Punch Clock will use the local date and time to Punch Out.

- If you arent currently running the original Time Sentry, be sure and DEACTIVATE all of the original Time Sentry machines.  They no longer need to run in Time Sentry mode.

- It is on our development list to create a version of the Time Sentry Mark II server that runs as a windows service.  This page will be updated when the new server is ready.
